Gastrointestinal Nematode Infestations in Sheep (PGE) in sheep

PGE in sheep

Despite the current run of fantastic weather it appears that conditions this autumn have again been favourable for parasitic gastroenteritis in sheep.

If growth rates are poor:
Check for PGE even if there are no or little signs of scour.
Remember that moxidectin products have variable persistency against Trichostrongyle spp. that can be common in autumn.
Keeping an accurate history with information on treatment date and dosing protocol will help inform whether investigation of anthelmintic resistance is required.
Look out for concurrent trace element deficiencies, particularly cobalt and selenium.
