It’s hip to Microchip and here’s why……

From 6th April 2016 all dogs in England will be legally required to be microchipped and their details registered on one of the authorised databases, such as Petlog.

Here are just a few stories explaining the importance of micro chipping your dog and the peace of mind it can bring to a dog owner……

Jake’s Return Home
Imagine that feeling of walking out into your garden and finding that your beloved companion is nowhere to be seen.

The Jones family thought they would never see their Labrador Jake, ever again when he went missing. They had let Jake to wander the garden whilst the weather was glorious outside and left the door open for him to roam around as he always did. Time passed and when they returned home they weren’t greeted by Jake as they always were. Suddenly panic began to settle in. One minute he was there and the next he was gone.

Over the next two weeks and after alerting the Pet Log database that Jake was missing, the family tried everything they could to find him. Posters and flyers were put up around the town, vets and rescue centres in the area were alerted and various lost and found pet services also helped with the hunt. The family were worried they would never find him and it was confirmed that he had been stolen.

The family received no news for two weeks. That was until one morning a Veterinary Practice near to the area called Mr Jones to confirm that Jake had been handed in! It was an unbelievable feeling to know that Jake was alive, safe and well!

Jake had been found wandering without his collar when a lady drove past him and decided to take him to the vets to find out who the owner was. On scanning Jake, the Microchip number was found and a quick call to Pet Log to retrieve his details meant that he was quickly reunited with his family who were of course overwhelmed and very, very happy!

Jake is now home and in his usual spot in front of the fire, safe in good health and sporting a brand new collar!

This reunification story is just another example of how a Microchip provides protection for pets with and continued support for pet owners.

Alfie the Escape artist
In July 2009 Alfie’s owners went on holiday, leaving their beloved toy poodle Alfie in the care of a family member about 20 miles away. Unfortunately Archie managed to escape through a gap in the garden hedge and he disappeared into thin air.

On their return from holiday, Alfie’s distraught owners spent many days traveling to the area where he went missing distributing posters and leaflets in the hope that someone might have seen him. As the months went by with no news, hope of ever seeing Alfie again began to fade, and with heavy hearts his devastated owners buried his toys in the garden by way of saying goodbye to him.

On the 26th January 2011 a City Council Dog Warden found Archie, and thanks to his microchip was able to contact the overjoyed owners. That day also happened to be his owners birthday, so what an amazing gift to have her precious companion back home where he belonged, and all thanks to the microchip!
