Equine Laboratory

At the Severn Edge Veterinary Group we have our own laboratory. We can carry out routine equine haematology and biochemistry, having the results back the same day. This is very important when dealing with sick horses, particularly if the illness occurs over the weekend when other labs are unavailable. We still send some of our blood samples to specialist equine labs if more detailed investigations and tests are needed.

We also carry out equine faecal Worm Egg Counts (WEC). This is very important in trying to assess the level of your horse’s worm burden. Frequently worming your horse may not be needed and can increase worm resistance, damage the environment and damage your wallet. After the WEC is carried out we will phone to discuss worming strategies that will suite your particular circumstances.

There is not one worming program to fit all horses’ requirements but are always tailor-made.
